Iranian universities are making significant strides in the field of nanotechnology, particularly in the areas of medical and pharmaceutical applications. Abolfazl Bagherifard, quoted by IRNA, noted that the country’s nanotechnology sector has shown improvement, with approximately 20 percent of the 350 nanotechnology companies in Iran focused on health-related products. Around 200 health products are currently being manufactured using nanotechnology. Bagherifard made these comments during his visit to the 14th International Nanotechnology Exhibition (Iran Nano 2023) in Tehran, where he also highlighted Iran’s position as one of the top 10 countries globally in the field of nanotechnology. He emphasized the quality and quantity of products produced in Iran using nanotechnology, stating that it enhances the effectiveness of knowledge-based products, reduces side effects, and competes with foreign-manufactured products. The exhibition also saw participation from trade delegations and knowledge-based companies from seven countries, including Indonesia, Cuba, and Venezuela. The achievements of Iran in nanotechnology were showcased to representatives of these countries in a meeting titled ‘Nano-tech for Society’. Iranian nanotechnology companies have been exporting their products, equipment, and services to 58 countries. The exports increased by 53 percent in the Iranian calendar year 1400 (March 2021-March 2022) compared to the preceding year. Notably, Iraq, Turkey, and Lebanon were the most important destinations for Iranian nanotechnology products, with significant imports recorded. Overall, the growth of Iran’s nanotechnology sector has been evident, with 280 active companies and total revenue amounting to 203 trillion rials (almost $407 million) by the end of the year 1400 (March 2022). Exports of nanotechnology equipment and services also saw significant increases, indicating the country’s expanding presence in global markets.
